Today’s Star Weekend Magazine cover article deals with the garment industry in Bangladesh. That reminds me of this time when I was at Big Bear lake somewhere in California and a Van Heusen store was having a big sale. Naturally, everyone else with me HAD to go in and I followed with my usual complaints.

Then I spotted a shirt with a Made in Bangladesh tag. Was pleasantly surprised. The next shirt had the same label. And the next. And the one after. HOLY! A shop in the middle of no where had shirts made in my country. I just felt really proud and happy.

I knew they made those shirts here, but seeing them so far away from home is a different feeling. For fifteen minutes I went checking out all the racks (like a maniac) and YEAH! the contents of the entire store had been stitched right here. :D They can probably make better stuff here, BUT it was still a major feel-good moment, :D

    Hey!

When have you changed the template? The new one is cool… check if you can do something to the blog header, the background of the header camouflages your blog title-text a bit. The overall look is excellent.

@ xanthis: thanks dude! i appreciate it…will look into the header thing for sure..

@ fhakinas: lol, well I’m not exceptionally proud of our stuff turning up in Walmart, but I’m happy that people are employed here, and there’s one industry in Bangladesh that’s at par with the world…I’m very optimistic about the RMG sectors, because I see a lot of inspired businessmen in the field, wouldn’t be surprised if we turn into world leaders some day :D Not to mention, the effect this might have on pharmaceuticals..we’re ready to roar!

I saw this shirt in Wal-Mart, I wasn’t really crazy for it since I only buy Express shirts or shirts similar to Express fashion, but the shirt in Wal-Mart was Bangladeshi made so I bought it. For me it’s mroe than just feeling proud, it’s abotu being supportive.
